オーストラリアのロック・バンド、Skegssは、2年以上振りの新曲となるニュー・シングル「Spaceman」を発表しました。この曲は、2023年半ばにベーシストのToby Creganが同年のSplendour In The Grassでの最終公演を最後にバンドを正式に脱退した後、デュオとなってから、初のシングルでもある。この曲のリリースをサポートするため、バンドは2024年6月から7月にかけての大規模な地方ツアーも発表している。
リード・ヴォーカル/ギタリストのBenny Reedがプレス・ステートメントの中で、バンドは当初、セカンド・アルバム『Rehearsal』の完成後、ロックダウン中にこの曲の制作を始めたと述べた。彼は、ドラマーであるJonny Laniと正式にリリースされた曲に行き着くまで、この曲は「いくつかのバージョン」を経てきたと述べている。彼は、「この作品で新しいことに挑戦し続け、そしてここまで到達できたことをうれしく思う。「寝るのは時々辛いけど、宇宙について考えるのはもっと辛いんだ」とコメント。この曲のミュージックビデオもチェックしよう。
Skegss have shared a new single entitled ‘Spaceman’, which formally marks their first new music in over two years. It also serves as their first single as a duo, following the formal departure of bassist Toby Cregan from the band in mid-2023 after a final show at that year’s Splendour In The Grass. To support the release of the track, the band have announced an extensive regional tour across June and July 2024. A full list of those dates, as well as ticketing information, can be found below.
In a press statement, lead vocalist and guitarist Benny Reed noted that the band had originally begun work on the song during lockdown, following the completion of their second studio album Rehearsal. He noted the song went through “a couple of versions” before he and drummer Jonny Lani landed on the one that has been officially released.
“[I’m] happy we kept trying new things with this one and where we got it to,” said Reed. “It’s funny how far we are from outer space; sleeping is hard sometimes, but thinking about outer space is harder.”
