イギリスの大規模フェスティバル「Download Festival」が、観客数を1万人に抑えたパイロット版フェス「Download Pilot」を6月18日から20日まで開催し、InstagramやTwitterなどにその様子が投稿され、大きな話題となっている。

Download Pilotは、イギリス政府の研究プログラムの一環として、従来の10分の1となる1万人にキャパを抑えての開催された。参加者はイベントへの参加前後に検査が必須となっているが、モッシュやシンガロングなどが許可されており、観客はマスクなしでコロナ前に近い環境でフェスティバルを楽しむことが出来たそうだ。

どの国でも、ソーシャルディスタンスや手指の消毒、体温チェックは欠かせないが、楽しみ方にはお国柄が出ているような気もする。日本国内でも少しずつフェスティバルが開催されているが、これまで通りのフェスに戻るには、もう1ステップアップが必要に感じる。主催の思いにしっかりと耳を傾け、すべての人がそれに寄り添い実行できている日本だからこそ、小さなステップを着実に重ねていくスタイルが出来ていると思うが、Download Pilotで感染者が増大しなければ、2022年に延期になったDownload Festival 2022に向けて、大きな一歩になることは間違いない。
喜びを爆発させたのはファンだけではない。出演したアーティストも再び大きなステージに戻れたことに喜びを感じていて、SNSで思いを綴っている。Download Pilotが実現した事実が、イギリスだけでなく他の国のライブシーンにも良い影響をもたらしてくれるだろう。
