スカとポップパンクを絶妙にミックスするCliffdiverが2枚目のアルバム『birdwatching』をSideOneDummyから2024年9月20日にリリースすることを発表しました。 この発表に合わせて、新作からの最新シングル「goin for the garbage plate (ft. Stoph Colasanto of Carpool)」を発表しています。 『Birdwatching』は、ニュージャージー州ホパトコン湖のバーバー・ショップ・スタジオで、プロデューサーのBrett Romnesと共にレコーディングされました。
『birdwatching』というアルバムタイトルは、Cliffdiverのメンバーの多くにとって趣味であるだけでなく、バンドに波及する精神的なオーバーホールのシグナルでもある。 『birdwatching』の構想から数ヶ月の間に、バンド全員が共に恐ろしい経験をした。 ツアー中、不慮の事故によりトラックのチェーンリンクが彼らのバンに飛び込み、ベーシストのTyler Rogersが危うく命を落とすところだったのだ。 幸いにもTyler Rogersは奇跡的に生還したが、死と隣り合わせの経験は彼らの心に残った。 Matt Ehelerは、「あれほど死と隣り合わせになれば、誰もが変わるだろう。 死がどれほどリアルなものかを知らしめる。 ネットやパーティーなど、いろいろなことを気にしなくなった。 いろいろなことがスローダウンしたんだ」。
ポップでありながら、シリアスなテーマを持つアルバムが多くの人の癒しになるはずだ。
Cliffdiver have announced their sophomore record, birdwatching, set to release September 20 via SideOneDummy. They’ve also released the latest single from the new album, “goin for the garbage plate (ft. Stoph Colasanto of Carpool).” Birdwatching was recorded with producer Brett Romnes at Barber Shop Studios in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey.
The album title, birdwatching, is not only a hobby for many of the members within cliffdiver but it signals a spiritual overhaul rippling through the band. Within a few months of birdwatching‘s gestation, the entire band went through a horrific experience together. Whilst on tour, a freak accident led to a truck chain link flying into their van, nearly killing their bassist, Tyler Rogers. Fortunately Tyler made a miraculous revery, the brush with mortality stuck with them all. Matt Eheler commented that “being that close to death will change anybody. Making it known how real it is. It made mes top caring as much about things like being online, partying, etc. I’ve slowed down on so much stuff.” He also picked up his birdwatching habit in response to the accident.
