アメリカのパンクロック・バンド “Social Distortion” が、最新アルバム『Born To Kill』収録曲「Tonight」の公式ミュージックビデオを公開した。映像はOklahoma州Tulsaで撮影され、John Swabが監督を務めている。John Swabは映画『Candy Land』を手掛けたほか、Will Smith主演のNetflix作品『Fast & Loose』でも監督を担当している。「Tonight」のミュージックビデオには、”Social Distortion” の創設者Mike Nessの息子であるJohnny Angel Rios-Nessが出演した。
映像では「Tonight」を背景にしたラブストーリーが描かれ、Mike Nessによる演奏場面と物語が交互に配置されている。物語は、Mike Nessが30年以上連れ添ってきた妻Christineに捧げた楽曲の内容をもとに制作された。『Born To Kill』は、2026年5月8日にEpitaph Recordsからリリースされた通算8作目のスタジオアルバムだ。前作『Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes』が発表された2011年以来、15年ぶりのスタジオ作品となる。
アルバムはMike NessとDave Sardyが共同でプロデュースを担当した。Tom Petty and the HeartbreakersのBenmont TenchとLucinda Williamsがゲスト参加し、カバーアートはMike NessとShepard Faireyが共同で制作している。
タイトル曲「Born To Kill」ではLou Reedの『Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal』やIggy and the Stoogesの「Search and Destroy」に言及しており、「Partners In Crime」にはDavid Bowieの「Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide」への言及が盛り込まれた。
“Social Distortion” はこれまでに、『Mommy’s Little Monster』（1983年）、『Prison Bound』（1988年）、『Social Distortion』（1990年）、『Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell』（1992年）、『White Light, White Heat, White Trash』（1996年）、『Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll』（2004年）、『Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes』（2011年）を発表してきた。『Social Distortion』と『Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell』は、RIAAからゴールド認定を受けている。
バンドは『Born To Kill』を携えた北米ツアーを2026年7月から10月にかけて開催する。8月25日から10月3日までの公演には、”Descendents” と “The Chats” がサポートとして出演する。
